Having already an Amazon S3 Account?

 If you didnt signed up for Amazon Simple Storage Services (S3), so do this first.  s3ganize is the right software for getting access to Amazon S3. But without a S3 account this program is quiet useless.

After you've signed up for Amazon Simple Storage Service, determine your Identifiers. Amazon provides you with an Access Key Id and a Security Secret Access. The first one is like a username, the second one is like a password. You'll find this information on this site.

Consider Software and Hardware Requirements

Currently only Windows Systems are supported. Multiplatform Versions are planned. The following paragraph is true for Microsoft Windows Systems (Windows 2000 or newer).

 Please check out, if Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or higher is installed. If you dont know, proceed with the next step. Otherwise, if its not installed, please download the Redistributional Package from Microsoft Server on this Location and install the package. This Package contains a lot of system libraries which are shared and necessary for a lot of programs like s3ganize.

Download the current Version of s3ganize from this location and save the Installer File on your hard disk at a folder you will find it again. Run this Installer Application while double click it.

If you get the following error message "s3ganize cannot be installed on systems with .NET Framework version smaller than 2.0" or something like this, please install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 first.

Starting Installation of s3ganize

 Double Click on the Icon "s3ganize.msi" what you where downloading before (Download-Section on this Site). The following Window should open up without error messages:

 Click on "Next" or press Enter while the Button called "Next" is focused. On the next Page you're allowed to change the installation path for s3ganize application. Usually you dont need to change something here.

 Click on Install or press the Enter key. The installation process should start immediatley.

At the end of the installation process you should find the following window on your screen:

Thats all. Usually you must not restart your computer. Click on "Finish" and start s3ganize with a click on the icon at your desktop or find the application under the section "My Programs"in your start-menu.

If all typed in data are correct, s3ganize tries to establish a connection to your Amazon S3 Storage. Should there occure an error containing the words "time out", please try it again.

s3ganize is now ready to work with.

If your screen looks as empty as the following screen shot, something failed. Either your Amazon Idenitifers are incorrect, or network problems occured. Please try again while restarting s3ganize or right-click on the node called "Amazon S3". A context menu opens up. Click here on "Add Amazon S3 Account".

If everything worked fine, you should have at least tree entries on the tree view on the left side. Next to the node called  "Amazon S3" you'll find the node named with your Amazon Access Key ID. If there are buckets existing in your S3 Account, your Application could start like this:

If not, it doesnt matter. So lets create some buckets. In Amazon S3 language, buckets are like folder or directories on your hard disk. Before you upload a file to Amazon S3, you have to create at least one bucket. Each bucket get a name as an identifier. Type in what you want. But be aware of global usage of this bucket name. If you create a bucket named "computer", this name is reserved only for you worldwide!

So please dont be disappointed, if a lot of bucket names are already used by other people.
